Sweet

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are welcoming their second child together into the world. Zuma Nesta Rock was born via c-section today and the baby weighed….. some sort of poundage and I don’t really care and am a little weirded out that it makes it into international news stories.

Gwen Pregnant no more

I’m just hoping that this means in another month or so and baby #2 is able to be in the care of the nanny for great lengths of time that Gwen can get back in the studio with the boys of No Doubt. The band is currently working on a long-awaited follow-up to 2001′s ‘Rock Steady’. Has it been 7 years? Was I really a teenager when they last came out with something? Shiiiiit.

Congratulations Gwen and Gavin!

Often times we bring you news and information that is more interesting that it is useful in anyone’s daily life. Well, not in this case. It’s not been catching a lot of big press lately but, with the economy pretty much going down just as fast as gas prices are going up, big-box retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City are willing to negotiate prices with customers. Yeah, think car dealership but without commissioned salespeople.

Not everyone is going to feel comfortable haggling over the price of the HDTV they are wanting to buy, but if you’ve got a pushy friend bring them along and let them do the talking. With the money you save you can buy them lunch and still have a little left over. This works mainly on larger purchases, have them throw in a DVD or two with that entertainment system, and maybe bring the price down 10% on that unused, returned item. You might have to upgrade to a manager but this is becoming the standard in the retail world.

With consumers feeling the economic pinch they are being forced to shop smarter.  So, with great pleasure we introduce to you the “Triad of Shopping Awesomenss.”

#1. Discount Codes: Use sites like currentcodes.com which lists discount and promotional codes for sites like Amazon. You can save up to 30% or maybe just get free shipping but next time you are shopping online make sure you check there first.

#2. Coupons: Yes, the tried and true usage of coupons is coming back with full force. Instead of clipping through the Sunday Times just check sites like printable-coupons.blogspot.com or wow-coupons.com.

#3. Compare shopping: No need to drive from store to store (who can afford the gas) instead check the stores online, all in one place at pricegrabber. This works great once you have purchased your item to make sure nobody is selling it for less. Many retailers will refund you the price difference within 30 days of purchase. Just check priceportectr.com.

For more hints and advice on how to save yourself money on that next big tech purchase check out this story from CNN Money.

May we present to you the Uno

Uno

This electric bike was created by 18-year-old Ben Gulak of Canada. The bike is much like a segway and has two wheels and is controlled entirely by your body movements. The more you lean the faster it goes, and the bike currently tops out at 25mph.  I expect young Mr. Gulak to be gaining the financing he’s looking for and these babies replacing segways for street cops. It’s hard to take a cop seriously when he’s on a segway. This would be a great bike for beach patrol or anyone who has been using ATV’s to get around. Whatever practical uses it might have, it’s just pretty darn sweet to us.

Ambani HOmeI’m getting tired of living in a three-bedroom house with a single car garage. Specifically, I’m not conent to live in a $1M home–there must be about 1 on each block in my neighborhood. $1M is chump-change.

I long for a house with 6-stories of parking garage. And a modest split-level can only hold me so long…for I really need 27. And that means the rickety steps out front will have to go, ideally replaced by elevators. Or 9 elevators to be more precise. That’s what I’m thinking.

And forget my advice to mom to paint her 2800-sq. ft. home with a few different colors on the wall. No, really, every room and every floor should be entirely different. The door handles on my 10th floor should NOT be found anywhere on 7 or 15. Let’s be clear on that!

It’ll of course need pools and gym facilities, atriums, and ballrooms hung with crystal chandiliers. Think big.

Like the Ambani’s are. Forbes has a detailed look at their “home”/skyscraper which is being built in downtown Mumbai. It’s pretty impressive. This post doesn’t really have anything to do with media or technology, as the family is building a skyscraper with petrochemical wealth. But it does have everything to do with being sweet, and being sweet is the unlabeled third wheel of our blog.
