Google’s Android could be for more than just phones
Posted by Jason T. under Google
Google’s releasing the first Android phone tomorrow through T-Mobile. But C|NET’s got an interesting article talking about the possibility that Android could make its way into more devices than just your phone. Unlike the iPhone, Google has created Android as a platform–it’s not device specific. For instance, Android could crop up in home appliances or automobiles. When will Android take on Windows Media Center PC Edition? I’m not sure…nor am I sure I really care…at least not yet.

I would actually argue that Mobile Mac OS X is a platform as well, not specific to just the iPhone. For example, note the existance of the iPod Touch, which proves that there’s nothing phone-specific about the OS. I’d be very surprised if we don’t see the Mac Touch OS in other kinds of devices by this time next year.

Hrm this is true that it is on the iPod Touch as well. I guess I’m not familiar enough with how specific the iPhone development is to iPhone/iPod Touch. Perhaps we will in fact see more Touch-enabled Mac OS devices/appliances/etc.
