Why the fuss over ‘I Am Rich’ app?

I’m just not sure why everyone is up in arms about the I am Rich app that was briefly sold on Apples iPhone/iPod Touch App Store. What does the application do? Absolutely nothing but show an expensive-looking red gem icon. How much does it cost? $999.99 USD. Why? Because you can drop a grand for no reason.
I’m wouldn’t buy the application, but that doesn’t mean others should not be able to spend their money on it. And as the Tech Check article pointed out–Apple made a pretty decent profit on this as well.
The only reason I can think of for this application to be pulled is that users were mistakenly adding it. Which is somewhat understandable. But, at least with my current iPhone settings, if I wanted to purchase this application I would have to:
- Launch the App Store on my phone
- Search for the app
- Tap the $999.99 price button
- Tap the Install button that it changes to
- Type in my password and hit OK
Unless there is something I’m missing, or it’s significantly easier to do this through iTunes on a computer, that’s a lot of steps in my mind for someone to “accidentially” add the application. And I haven’t heard any reports that this applicaiton falsely advertised features that it didn’t really have.
Why do people get so up in arms about this crap?

Oh man, I was really hoping you were going to buy this to prove your point.
Also, the author claims to the LA Times that he sold 8 copies: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2008/08/iphone-i-am-ric.html
