Oops.  Turns out in Belgium it’s against the law to subsidize one product by charging more for another.  Thus, the iPhones in Belgium will retail for 525 euros (about $825) and 615 euros (about $966), whereas in the States they’ll only cost $199 and $299.  Surprisingly, the carrier in Belgium thinks this won’t be a problem for sales.  What is also surprising to me is that seems to indicate an “unsubsidized” iPhone is about $800–but that doesn’t quite make sense.  AT&T says they will sell a contract-free version of the iPhone (which to me reads “unsubsidized”) for $599 and $699.  Something seems a bit fishy…
