Readius - “eReading comfort in a mobile phone”
Posted by Jason T. under Uncategorized
In 2005, a divison of Phillips Electronics called Polymer Vision announced plans for the Readius mobile phone, utilizing a foldable electronic paper black and white touch screen incorporated into a mobile phone. Black and white isn’t so cool. But the fact that the screen folds out to an enormous (by phone standards) 5 inches sets this device apart from other smartphones. Polymer Vision announced they will soon launch the phone in Europe. No word yet on a US carrier or release date. Expect the device to make some waves when it’s showcased at the 3GSM World Congress. The Readius will feature RSS feeds, e-books, e-mail, an audio player, and mobile phone, all rolled up into a sleek silver package weighing only 115g (my Cingular 8525 weighs a hefty 170g). Tri Band and 3G, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0, Micro SD expansion, and a 400Mhz ARM11 processor should make for a full-featured and powerful device. C|Net reported WiFi but I didn’t see it mentioned on the Polymer Vision specs page. C|Net has some great close-up photos, and check out the Polymer Vision site for more detailed specs.
